Verizon Labs and BlueJeans Spaces

Works

Disclaimer: These thoughts are my own, My involvement with this project is purely professional and I will not be discussing NDA information.

During 2021 - 2022 I worked in one of Verizon's development studios called "Verizon Labs". Our work was very mixed, and primarily revolved around utilizing Verizon's 5G systems in new and interesting ways. Most of my work related to a custom engine that was being developed by the lab. I also worked on the project "BlueJeans Spaces" at this time - a virtual office space using the engine.

I primarily worked with C++ and C# for the internal projects. At the start of my contract I took on more of an understudy role. Each day felt like a masterclass in programming, and I was introduced to many new techniques and tools. Over this time I also began exploring more in-depth C++ concepts on my own. As my confidence in C++ grew I began taking on new systems and working more in-depth with the in-house engine. I helped create a shader authoring tool and updated our rendering pipelines. I also began pitching new concepts and writing technical designs for systems.

Conclusion

Its a shame I can't show off much of the work I did for this lab, but I'm still very proud of the work I achieved in a short amount of time. This job was one of the best learning experiences I've had yet, and really helped solidify my skills. I look back on the nights spent ideating and coming up with off-the-wall ideas fondly.
